The M51 "Whirlpool Galaxy" shines as one of the brightest spiral galaxies in the night sky.
Several NASA space observatories combined to produce this composite image. The Chandra X-ray Observatory shows purple, point-like sources that indicate black holes and neutron stars in binary star systems, and also picks up on the glow of hot gas lighting the space between the stars. The Hubble Space Telescope provides optical data in green, while the Spitzer Space Telescope sees red infrared emissions — both reflect lanes of stars, gas, and dust in the galaxy's spiral arms. The Galaxy Evolution Explorer completes the image with views of hot, young stars giving off ultraviolet energy in blue.
The spiral shape may be a result of a galactic encounter when NGC 5195 passed through M51's main disk about 500 million years ago. That gravitational tug-of-war likely triggered a new round of starbirth, as gravitational forces condensed gas and jump-started the process of star formation.

Well vn i told everyone that i saw a shooting star.. their immediate reaction was that Did u make a wish?.. just wanted to knw why do people say so.. well searched in IE n got a few results..

Most children are familiar with the superstition that a wish made on a
shooting star will come true. While no one knows exactly where or when the tradition of wishing on a shooting star arose, it is undoubtedly linked to the beauty and relative rarity of shooting stars and humanity's eternal fascination with the heavens. Stars have been associated since ancient times with divine powers, and even today, some people associate shooting stars with angels, so wishing on a star may be akin to offering a prayer.
Shooting stars are actually not stars at all, but
meteors. A meteor is the glowing trail that appears in the sky when a meteoroid, a piece of debris in space, enters the Earth's atmosphere. Most meteoroids that come near to the Earth burn up before they reach the planet's surface, so shooting stars are often all people see of a meteoroid. Meteors appear to the human eye as glowing lights similar in size and color to stars, so to the imaginative or the uninformed, thinking of them as falling or shooting stars is quite natural.
Shooting stars may be considered lucky and ideal for wishing because they are relatively rare to see, especially in modern cities with significant
light pollution, and because they come and go so quickly. Wishing on shooting stars is actually somewhat of a challenge, since they disappear almost as soon as one sees them. Therefore, it's difficult to disprove the claim that wishes made on shooting stars come true.
It seems likely that people have been wishing on those breathtaking, mysterious heavenly bodies since well before recorded history.

Hey i'm back in action , Thnks to god & all of u.. ur wishes worked...i can acess my blog from my system.. Well yesterday was a very busy day... was on leave for 2 days n so many mails to action ... so no time to update blog.. Well in office right now to finish my pending work!! Hmmn.. ws traveling on wed & thr to Karrur.. n Great Southrn railways was late both while going & while coming back & that too for 2 hrs.. Only one great thing appeared i hapnd to see a "Shooting star"... it was too good.. it ws pitch dark night.. i think it was around 4.45 A.M.. when i was peeping out of the train window.. i got to see a shooting star fall... it ws just WOW...
Well a little on Shooting Star - A shooting star is the common name for the visible path of a meteoroid as it enters the atmosphere.A meteoroid is a small sand to boulder-sized particle of debris in the Solar system. Larger than that, the object is an asteroid; smaller than that, it is interplanetary dust. The current official definition of a meteoroid from the International Astronomical Union is "A solid object moving in interplanetary space, of a size considerably smaller than an asteroid and considerably larger than an atom or molecule."
